Theoretical Framework

Click here to see the video regarding Theoretical production.

Population: intermediate level  Grades: 8°-9°
Target topic: The main goal is to teach Present simple tense based on real-life activities and asking and giving information.
Target language: English
Topic: Present simple
Theory: The focus within this theory is on the repetition of new skills or knowledge until it is engrained in one's behaviour(behaviourism)
Approach: Task-Based approach. Presentation, Practice, Production:

*“First, the teacher presents an item of language in a clear context to get across its meaning. This could be done in a variety of ways: through a text, a situation build, a dialogue etc.

*Students are then asked to complete a controlled practice stage, where they may have to repeat target items through choral and individual drilling, fill gaps or match halves of sentences. All of this practice
demands that the student uses the language correctly and helps them to become more comfortable with it.

*Finally, they move on to the production stage, sometimes called the 'free practice' stage. Students are given a communication task such as a role play and are expected to produce the target language and use any other language that has already been learnt and is suitable for completing it.”1.

Type of Enhaced   Input
Salience input:
Repetition:
In this stage, the way of design materials is really important due to these can direct learner´s attention to particular linguistic forms within the input. Chapelle states “as second way of making input salient is through repetition of the target linguistic forms ”.  Therefore, our task will involve repetition using linguistic forms to create meaningful unit of speech in order to produce accurately way the dialogues to develop the task using interesting software (oddcast.com) to avoid mistakes related to pronunciation.
Also the leaner’s perspective is one of the most important aspects to taking to account, due to even when this have suggested vocabulary that he/she has the chance to learn, the learner chooses to access to available sets of repetition, that turns this into advantages for those who already got knowledge about linguistic forms.
The use of repetition during the task, allows the learner to practice different skills:  writing (rewrite the dialogue) and Speaking oral production appears  (interview itself) through the implementation of a grammatical issue as present simple, that will provide the base to start the next stage that corresponds to the creation of the comic.
Communicative Competence.

Finally, It is also important to highlight the improvement of the communicative competence, divided into four main components given by  Canaleans Swain (1980):

-Grammatical competence: Making the students knowledgeable about the grammar structures using present simple
- Discourse competence: Allowing the students to use that grammar structure (present simple) to connect sentences in meaningful way
-Sociolinguistic competence: Learners understand and use some social a cultural rules of the 2L environment
- Strategic competence: Using strategies as repetition and body language to develop the task.

Presentation:
For the development of this task, we will work based on task-based approach that is why we will carry it out by three activities: Presentation, Practice, Production.

Firsts the teacher present the topic which is Present Simple. Teacher present it in an easy way to get across the meaning. This could be done in a variety of ways: through a text, to build situation or create a dialogue, ect. And then teacher will explain students how to work with glogster.com  (how to create an account and how to create a glogster

Practice:
Then students are asked to complete a controlled practice, for which they must be working by pairs. Each pair will choose a celebrity that catches their attention, could be an actor, singer or whoever. And using Glogster they must create a short biography of the celebrity.

Production:
Then students should write a dialogue to interact with their celebrity in a real-life situation; one student will assume the role of the celebrity and one who ask the questions based on the topic Present Simple.
Finally they move on to the production stage, where they create a comic interviewing their celebrity, based on   http://goanimate.com/  which is a free software and easy to use. Students must record the dialog and upload it to their Glogster creation.

And at the end students go to http://www.oddcast.com/home/demos/tts/tts_example.php and there they will have the opportunity to compare pronunciation and improve it.

Activity Enforcement

This is an example of the development of the activity.
In this case our celebrity chosen was Peter Griffin from the Family Guy series.
Remember to be creative and use all the possible resources, images, videos, relevant information, etc.
.

Here we have an example on how to create a Glogster based on our favorite celebrity.  It is only an example, you can use all your imagination and do it creative as you want!!

Now that we know all the important information about our celebrity, go ahead and create the dialogue.
Finally, we are ready to create our comic. Remember we should use http://goanimate.com/

Look at this example, we developed our comic based on our celebrity Peter Griffin from Family guy.
